Traditional Christmas in a New York City Apartment

This year, we are spending our first Christmas in New York City, and it’s been such a ball getting to decorate in an apartment.

If you know anything about me, you know how much I love classic, traditional home design. This year, I have put a few fun touches that tie in our time in the city!

A few weeks ago, I shot an apartment tour with Homeworthy, which meant I got 100% decorated for Christmas earlier than I ever have. But honestly I’ve learned to love getting it all done before Thanksgiving (or at least the bulk of it) because then I can really enjoy December instead of catching up the whole month.

This year, I went with that classic red on our tree, then added pops of pink and green with wrapping paper, on the dining room tablescape, and throughout our home decor.

Let’s start with the tree!

This beautiful pre-lit tree is from Home Depot and is such a good price for the size. It took me less than 5 minutes to put up from the box, has a remote control for different color and twinkling options, and has a great amount of lights.

I am always a believer that the more lights, the better, so if I would have waited on these lights to ship from Amazon, I totally would have put more on this tree just for the heck of it 🙂

And for the beautiful bow topper! This is an Etsy find. It’s absolutely stunning! The seller has so many different colors and styles.

My Favorite Filler Ornaments + Picks

I put a bunch of filler ornaments on first to reflect the lights and make the tree feel full before I go in with the family collected ornaments. I usually do a base of silver, gold and champagne but you can do anything!

Here are my favorite filler ornaments and picks that I tucked inside of the tree!

Heirloom + Collectible Ornaments

There is nothing better than getting out the family ornaments each year. Here are some of my very favorite heirloom and collectable ornaments that you absolutely need on your tree!

And at the end, I added some fun tinsel. I love how it turned out.

Shop my sconce from Pooky Lighting, the wreath I hung on it, and the little red velvet bow.

The Tree Skirt

For the tree skirt, I went with this one from Kirt Adler (on amazon). It was a fun one for this year with the beads and embroidery!

And for wrapping paper, here are my favorites.

The Dining Room

Moving on to the dining room, I wanted to tie in the green from the walls and throughout our home with these cabbage plates as chargers, but still wanted to go heavy on the pinks and reds.

And for the rest of the living room, these are my favorite decorations from this year. These little touches make the space feel so classic and festive without overwhelming our small NYC apartment.

And the sweetest gift ever from Goodness Gracious Pottery. I love everything she makes! Such a thoughtful and precious keepsake for your child or grandchildren.

Decorating this little apartment for our first Christmas in New York has brought me so much joy. Even the smallest touches made the whole space feel warm and festive, and I’m so glad I got it all up early enough to enjoy every minute of December. I hope you got some great ideas for your Christmas decor this year!
